You are reading the Privacy Policy of joinaboard.app (the Aboard iOS & Android app). This Privacy Policy is a legal agreement between you and Aboard, and is governed by and part of our Service Agreement. Please read this Policy and the Service Agreement carefully before boarding as a Member.

01Information we collect & how

Information collected automatically. When you use Aboard, we automatically collect and store certain information about your device and your activities. We may use this and other information described in this Policy to infer things like your interests.

01Mobile Device ID

Your mobile device's unique ID number (e.g., IMEI, AD ID).

02Geolocation

With your permission, your device's geographic location (GPS) when you first register through our app or when you enable location services within it.

03Device Information

Technical information about your computer or mobile device (e.g., device type, browser or operating system, IP address) to analyze trends, administer the service, prevent fraud, track visitor movement in aggregate, and gather broad demographic information.

04Usage Information

How long and in what manner you use Aboard, which features you use, and content you generate or post — including browsing and search history (such as profiles you have viewed). We link your subscriber information with your activity across all your devices using your email, phone number, or similar identifiers.

05Cookies

We and our service providers use "cookies" to keep track of information while you use Aboard. Cookies let us count visitors, distinguish repeat visitors from new ones, save preferences, track trends, and (where permitted) advertise to you. We use both session and persistent cookies. If your browser rejects all cookies, Aboard may not function properly — and without this information, we may not be able to provide all requested services.

Information you choose to provide. When you register, you must provide certain information — including your username and password, email address, zip code, birthday, gender, and gender preference. We will also ask you to upload photos for your profile and may collect any information (including location metadata) contained in those files. You may provide additional information about yourself (such as your school, occupation, or current city) to build your Aboard profile. You may also provide "special categories of personal data" under applicable law, such as your race, ethnicity, religion, philosophical or political views, and information relating to your sex life or sexual orientation. By affirmatively providing this information, you explicitly consent to our use of it to fine-tune your match criteria with other Users. Any information you provide in the non-personally-identifiable section of your profile will be viewable by your matches. You may also provide payment information (where required). We collect and process your messages with other users as part of operating the Services. If you use our video chat feature, you will need to grant the app access to your camera and microphone — and we and others you video chat with may collect content and information made available through that feature.

Referring your friends. We encourage you to refer friends to Aboard by sending us their email addresses or phone numbers. We keep this information in our database and enable you to send a one-time email or text containing your name and inviting them. The message will include instructions to opt out and unsubscribe. You agree not to abuse this feature by entering contact information for individuals who would not be interested in Aboard.

Emails. We require an email address when you register. We use your email for both administrative (e.g., confirming registration, match notifications) and promotional (e.g., newsletters, new features, special offers, event notifications) purposes. Email messages may contain code that lets our database track your usage (open rate, clicks). You may opt out of promotional emails at any time via the opt-out links or by emailing [email protected]. We reserve the right to send service announcements, security alerts, update notices, or other administrative messages without an opt-out option.

02How we use personal information

We use your email and other personal information to help us efficiently operate the Services, to contact you in connection with your membership and other activities on Aboard (including confirmations or important news that could affect your relationship with us), and to forward messages from other Aboard users.

03Location information & services

Aboard includes location-based services and features. These are used to connect you to other users based on your geographic location and to personalize your experience. To implement these features, we collect your location data — including (but not limited to) GPS data, WiFi data, and cell tower data.

04Your privacy rights

You hold meaningful, actionable rights over your personal information. We take them seriously:

Access

Confirm whether we're processing your personal information, obtain access to or a copy of it, or request an electronic copy you can port to another service.

Correct

Request correction of your personal information where it is inaccurate or incomplete. We also provide self-service tools to update most fields.

Delete

Request deletion of your personal information at any time.

Restrict / Object

Request restriction of — or object to — our processing of your personal information.

Withdraw Consent

Withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal information at any time, with no penalty.

05How we protect your information

Aboard takes reasonable measures to prevent the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information we obtain from you. However, we make no assurances about our ability to prevent any such loss, misuse, or alteration, and we will have no liability to you or any third party arising out of any such event. Aboard may store and process personal information in the United States and other countries.

06Information you share publicly

Whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information on publicly-viewable pages, that information will be publicly available and can be collected and used by others. For example, if you post your email address, you may receive unsolicited messages. We cannot control who reads your posts or what other users may do with information you voluntarily post, so we encourage you to exercise discretion and caution with your personal information.

07Data retention

Because people tend to use our service at different points in their relationship-seeking life, we retain your personal information for continued service and convenience until you advise us not to. Notwithstanding the foregoing, we may retain personal information to comply with applicable laws, keep accurate records, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, enforce our Terms or other agreements, or for any other legally permissible purpose.

08Updating or removing account information

You may review or edit your profile at any time by logging into your Aboard account. If you would like us to delete your account information, we may do so by deactivating your account first and then permanently deleting it. Notwithstanding the foregoing, we may continue to contact you to communicate information relating to your request for Aboard services, or to respond to any inquiry or request made by you. To opt out of all messages concerning Aboard, you must cease using the Services and cease submitting inquiries.

09Children's privacy

We require users to be at least 18 years of age. We do not intend for anyone under 18 to use any of the features or services we offer, and we do not direct any content specifically at children under 18. We understand and are committed to respecting the sensitive nature of children's privacy online.

10Changes to this Policy

We reserve the right, at any time, to add to, change, update, or modify this Policy — simply by posting the change on Aboard and without other notice to you. Any such change will be effective immediately upon posting. If changes are made, we will reflect the "Last updated" date above. It is your responsibility to review this Policy from time to time to ensure you continue to agree with its terms.

⚓ A note on safety

We don't conduct background checks on members of this app. Please stay alert for suspicious scammers. If you find any suspicious profiles, report them to us — we will block suspicious users as quickly as possible. Your safety matters more than our metrics.
